The PILATES Method is a physical fitness system developed in the early 20thth century by the Greek-German born Joseph Pilates.
The PILATES Method develops the body uniformly, corrects posture, and restores vitality. PILATES exercises are performed on custom-designed PILATES equipment with a focus on the original principles created by Joseph. Currently, there are various interpretations of Joseph Pilates work and some contemporized formats of the method lose sight of the original format and technique.
As PILATES increases in popularity, some training programs deviate from the original method and can be considered “Pilates-based exercise.”
At Overlake Pilates Studios, PILATES is taught in private sessions or in classes with a very small group. Teachers lead and instruct by providing verbal cues and instruction only, never by merely doing the class with students.
All exercises at Overlake Pilates Studio are based on the original principals of Joseph Pilates, centering, concentration, control, precision, breath, and flow.
It is best to take PILATES with one on one attention to concentrate on your individual needs our bodies are all different with individual weakness that a mindful private program can address.
